THE STATE OF ART

 This is the continuation of my string quartet series ART (involving 26 pieces), the first part of which was premiered in 2017. The newer pieces partly take up motifs from the older ones - although you can't speak of 'motifs' in the musical sense here. Rather, they are material processes that reveal the mechanics of the tone production. The tone sequences have neither a rhetorical nor an ornamental function. They are aesthetically indifferent carriers for the differentiations of bow conduct carried out on their surface. As in an industrial process the tones are being 'polished' in various steps and the resulting noises form the music.

  Dies ist die Fortsetzung meiner Streichquartett-Serie ART (bestehend aus 26 Stücken), deren erster Teil 2017 uraufgeführt wurde. Die neueren Stücke greifen teilweise Motive der älteren auf - wenngleich man hier nicht im musikalischen Sinne von 'Motiven' sprechen kann. Es sind eher Materialprozesse, die die Mechanik der Tonerzeugung offengelegen. Die Tonfolgen haben weder rhetorische, noch ornamentale Funktion. Sie sind ästhetisch indifferente Träger für die auf ihrer Oberfläche vollzogenen Differenzierungen der Bogenführung. Wie in einem industriellen Verfahren werden die Töne in unterschiedlichen Arbeitsgängen 'geschliffen' und die dabei entstehenden Geräusche bilden die Musik.
