Kodam Gobar, for ensemble and soprano voice (2011)

The score uses an alternative sign system with a flexible interval structure instead of fixed pitches; that is, performers must independently control the melodic progression of their part, with the timing of onsets, as well as duration, dynamics, timbre, intonation, and mode of attac always fixed.
In terms of listening experience, this probably makes no difference; the sounding music provides no information about how it comes about, and in what proportion it is composed and improvised. For me, this form of notation was simply the consequence of a musical idea that is not oriented to the sequence of tones, but to a surface structure in which certain interval classes alternate in certain frequency ratios. The ultimate goal was to relativize the function of the melody in order to emphasize the attributes of the stylistic model, as compared to those of the concrete composition.
The rhythmic phrasing follows a text by the Iranian poet Fereydoon Moshiri, which, however, since I am not proficient in the Iranian language (Farsi), I have used purely onomatopoetically, i.e. without worrying about semantic content. I trusted that the atmosphere of the poem would somehow intuitively flow into the creative process and take on its appropriate musical expression.
2011 the piece was awarded first price in composition contest 'Fereydoon Moshiri', and premiered by work in progress - Berlin at the Hamburg Klangwerktage.
